Yoshida Shōin History Museum

The Yoshida Shōin History Museum, located within the grounds of Shōin Shrine in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, is dedicated to the life and legacy of the influential late-Edo period thinker, Yoshida Shōin. The museum underwent a significant renovation and reopened to the public on November 1, 2023. (yamaguchi-tourism.jp)

The museum features over 70 life-sized wax figures arranged in 17 scenes that vividly depict Shōin's dynamic life, including his attempted clandestine voyage to the United States aboard an American warship in 1854. Interactive elements, such as a moving boat in the "Shimoda Attempted Voyage" exhibit, enhance the visitor experience. (47news.jp)

In addition to exhibits on Shōin, the museum showcases wax figures of eight prime ministers from Yamaguchi Prefecture, including an effigy of former Prime Minister Shinzō Abe, dressed in attire donated by his wife, Akie Abe. (47news.jp)
