Monumental Sculptures Celebrating Life and Dynamism at Urayasu City Sports Park

About

The “Gate of Dynamism,” towering at the entrance of Urayasu City Sports Park, is a monument approximately 17 meters tall created by Taro Okamoto in 1993. The white gate stretches skyward like a plant sprouting from the earth, and atop it are five human figures arranged in dynamic, supple poses, moving their entire bodies with strength. Regarding this work, Okamoto commented, “This is a plaza of joy where all life is vibrant and dynamic.” (douki-takaoka-map.com)

Passing through the gate and proceeding along the promenade, you will come across a work named “Five Continents” in the multipurpose plaza. Five organic monuments are arranged in a circle, as if symbolizing the continents of the world. (at-art.jp)

Furthermore, on the wall of the staircase leading to the indoor pool of the park’s general gymnasium, there is a huge relief of the commemorative participation medal for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, designed by Taro Okamoto. (tabinoashiato.blogspot.com)

These works were created by Taro Okamoto in his later years, and convey his passion for art and the vibrancy of life. Visitors to the park can enjoy sports and recreation while experiencing Okamoto’s art and feeling the joy of life.
