About
Odaiba Marine Park stands quietly amidst the gentle waves of Tokyo Bay, and in one corner, the Statue of Liberty stands silently. This bronze statue, approximately 11 meters tall and weighing 9 tons, was installed in 1998 as a replica of the Statue of Liberty on the Seine River in Paris, France, to commemorate the “Year of France in Japan.” Initially, it was a temporary exhibition, but its graceful figure captured the hearts of many people, and from 2000 it became a permanent installation. The statue stands as a symbol of freedom and hope, with a torch held high in its right hand, a tablet cradled in its left arm, and seven crowns atop its head. In the background, the Rainbow Bridge draws an elegant arc, and in the distance, Tokyo Tower soars, creating an iconic Tokyo landscape. Especially at dusk, as the sky is dyed crimson, the statue and Rainbow Bridge become silhouettes, producing a fantastical scene.
This Statue of Liberty was created with official permission from the city of Paris at the Coubertin Foundry there. It was made using a mold taken from the Paris Statue of Liberty and produced with the same bronze casting method as the original. For this reason, it is reproduced in detail, and as a symbol of friendship with France, it is beloved by many people. (visit-minato-city.tokyo)
From the Skywalk within Odaiba Marine Park, you can view the statue up close, making it a popular spot for photography. Also, from the “Goddess Terrace” on the third floor of Aqua City Odaiba, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Statue of Liberty, Rainbow Bridge, and Tokyo Tower, making it an excellent viewpoint. At night, the illuminated statue and bridge are reflected on the surface of Tokyo Bay, creating a romantic atmosphere. (travel-noted.jp)
