PIGMENT TOKYO

A Vibrant Sanctuary of Color, Art Supplies, and Japanese Craft at Tennozu Isle

About

Nestled quietly by the waterside of Tennozu Isle, “PIGMENT TOKYO” is a space that resembles a treasure box of colors. The interior, designed by architect Kengo Kuma, is composed of organic curves reminiscent of bamboo blinds, inviting visitors into a world of gentle light and shadow.

Upon stepping inside, you are greeted by a wall lined with approximately 4,500 colors of pigments. From mineral pigments born from natural ores to effect pigments created with the latest technology, the diversity is truly exciting. In particular, the deep blue of ultramarine made from the rare lapis lazuli has fascinated many artists since ancient times.

Furthermore, the sight of more than 600 types of brushes and paintbrushes neatly arranged is impressive. These tools, which showcase the craftsmanship of Japanese artisans, each possess the presence of a work of art, and you will be amazed by their delicate construction when you hold them in your hand.

PIGMENT TOKYO is not just an art supply store. Here, knowledgeable staff carefully teach the characteristics and usage of the materials. In addition, at regularly held workshops, a wide range of people from beginners to professionals can learn about the techniques of Japanese painting and the profoundness of color.

This place is truly a laboratory of color, where tradition and innovation intersect. Every visit promises new discoveries and inspiration—such is the special nature of this space.
