About
Passing through the bustle of Roppongi Hills, you will find yourself in the tranquil and verdant Mohri Garden. This garden has a history dating back to the Edo period, having been created as the garden of the upper residence of the Mouri family, lords of the Chofu domain, and it still retains much of its original atmosphere even in today’s urban environment.
At the center of the garden lies a calm pond, its surface reflecting the scenery of each season. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom in profusion, and the smiles of people enjoying hanami by the pond abound. In summer, lush green trees provide cool shade, while in autumn, the garden is vividly colored by the changing leaves. On winter nights, illuminations are installed, enchanting visitors with a magical spectacle.
Within the garden stands a grand ginkgo tree reaching 25 meters in height, its dignified presence a silent witness to the passage of time. In the pond, descendants of “space medaka” (Japanese rice fish) born aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1994 swim, evoking a mysterious connection between space and earth.
Furthermore, by the pond is the heart-shaped public artwork “Kin no Kokoro” by French artist Jean-Michel Othoniel, creating a space where tradition and modernity are beautifully fused.
Mohri Garden is a serene oasis that lets you forget the noise of the city. Why not spend a peaceful moment in this place where history, nature, and contemporary art are in perfect harmony?
