About
Nestled in a back alley of Jimbocho, "Milonga Nueva" is a long-established café that has been marking the passage of time with the melodies of Argentine tango since its founding in 1953. Upon stepping inside, you are greeted by brick walls illuminated by soft lighting and well-worn wooden furniture. The walls are adorned with black-and-white photographs of tango masters and instruments such as the bandoneon, creating an exotic atmosphere.
The café plays famous Argentine tango pieces selected from a collection of over 500 records. The music, played through highly regarded Altec speakers favored by audio enthusiasts, evokes a pleasant sense of nostalgia. The staff choose records according to their mood each day, allowing guests to enjoy a diverse world of tango, from classical to modern.
The menu features charcoal-roasted coffee and beers from around the world, with the "Milonga Blend" particularly noted for its deep richness and bitterness. The handmade "Pizza Milonga" is topped with tomato sauce, salami, boiled egg, and olives, making it a perfect match for beer. The homemade cakes, which change daily, are also popular and can be enjoyed with coffee for a blissful moment.
In February 2023, due to the aging of the building, the café relocated just a few dozen meters from its original location. The new premises occupy a space that was once part of its sister store "Ladrio," and faithfully recreate the atmosphere of the old café. Tables, chairs, chandeliers, speakers, and other furnishings were moved from the previous location as much as possible, and the walls feature a design that makes use of bricks from the old "Ladrio" era.
"Milonga Nueva" continues to be loved by tango enthusiasts and regulars, as well as an increasing number of younger customers, attracting people of all ages. It is a place where you can enjoy your own time, whether sipping alcohol during the day or savoring coffee at night. Why not spend a pleasant moment in this nostalgic space, listening to the sounds of Argentine tango?
