About
The Komaba Museum of the University of Tokyo is a building that evokes a sense of history and the breath of knowledge, standing quietly within the serene campus of Komaba, Meguro Ward. This building was originally constructed in 1935 as the library of the former First Higher School. Its dignified and imposing appearance continues to convey the prestige of an academic sanctuary across time.
Upon entering the museum, visitors are greeted by high ceilings and spacious exhibition rooms. Here, collection exhibitions and special exhibitions are held regularly, covering a wide variety of themes regardless of the humanities or sciences. For example, in the spring of 2025, an exhibition titled “The History of Eastern Eurasia as Seen Through Metalwork” was held, introducing Khitan metalworking techniques and the bronze culture of Eastern Eurasia. In addition, the museum houses a catalog reference room, which contains catalogs and related books from art exhibitions across Japan. An exhibition titled “Exploring Art Exhibitions Through Books 5,” which introduced more than 400 newly acquired exhibition catalogs from 2023 to 2024, was also held. (c.u-tokyo.ac.jp)
