About
In the heart of Kyoto, when you set foot in the Demachiyanagi area, you will find the delta where the Kamo River and Takano River elegantly merge, commonly known as the "Kamogawa Delta." This place is cherished as a relaxing spot for both locals and travelers, a step away from the bustle of the ancient city.
With the arrival of spring, cherry blossoms bloom in abundance along the riverside, and pale pink petals dance in the wind. Families and students can be seen spreading out leisure sheets and enjoying hanami (flower viewing). On the river’s surface, spot-billed ducks and little egrets play, creating a harmonious scene between nature and people.
When the summer sun shines down, children delight in playing in the shallow parts of the river. Crossing the stepping stones, you will notice stones shaped like turtles and plovers, which add a playful touch. These stepping stones were installed about 30 years ago to stabilize the riverbed, and now they are beloved by both tourists and locals. (travel.navitime.com)
As autumn deepens, the surrounding trees turn red and yellow, and their leaves reflected on the river’s surface evoke the changing seasons. In the distance, you can see Mount Hiei and Mount Daimonji, and on the night of August 16th, the "Daimonji Okuribi" bonfire is lit, signaling the end of summer.
On winter mornings, river mist rises in the cold air, creating a magical landscape. When snow accumulates, a silvery white world unfolds, and the beauty of nature stands out in the silence.
This area is also known as a setting for movies and anime, appearing in many works. For example, the film "Kamogawa Hormone" and the anime "K-On!" were filmed here, and it is not uncommon for fans to visit as a pilgrimage site. (dokoiku-media.jp)
Additionally, on the 22nd of every month, a giant shortcake art piece appears at the Kamogawa Delta. Created as a graduation project by Kyoto Seika University, the shortcake, measuring 2 meters long and 80 centimeters high, is placed by the riverside, delighting the eyes of visitors.
