Iidabashi: Where History Meets Modern Tokyo

A vibrant crossroads of Edo-era charm, cultural landmarks, and modern conveniences in the heart of the city.

About

The area around Iidabashi Station is a place with a unique atmosphere where history and modernity intersect. During the Edo period, this area faced the outer moat of Edo Castle and was a tranquil region lined with samurai residences. Along the outer moat, water transport for carrying goods flourished, and place names such as Kaguragashi and Agebamachi still retain traces of that era.

With the advent of the Meiji period, the area around Iidabashi took on the character of a military city, with military-related facilities and bureaucrats’ residences being built. Later, universities and vocational schools were established one after another, transforming it into a town where students gathered. Today, office buildings and commercial facilities stand side by side, making it an area where business and culture blend together.

Iidabashi Station is a major transportation hub served by five lines: the JR Chuo-Sobu Line, Tokyo Metro Tozai Line, Yurakucho Line, Namboku Line, and Toei Oedo Line. It offers excellent access to major stations such as Shinjuku, Tokyo, and Ikebukuro, making it a convenient location for commuting and studying.

Around the station, there are historical buildings scattered about, as well as Tokyo Daijingu, known as a deity of matchmaking, making it ideal for strolling. In addition, the Kagurazaka-dori shopping street features charming old stone pavements and small alleys, and a wide variety of restaurants ranging from renowned Japanese establishments to famous French restaurants are gathered there.

In recent years, redevelopment has progressed, and commercial facilities such as Iidabashi Central Plaza and Iidabashi Sakura Park have been established, further enhancing convenience. This town, where history and modernity are in harmony, offers a wide range of attractions to visitors.
