About
At the western tip of Enoshima, standing on the high ground of Tatsunogaoka, is the "Ryuren no Kane" (Bell of Dragon Love). This is a sacred place for lovers, where the legend of the celestial maiden and the five-headed dragon lives on. Around the bell, countless padlocks are attached to the fence, inscribed with the vows of eternal love by visiting couples.
According to legend, long ago, an evil dragon with five heads lived deep in the mountains of Kamakura’s Fukazawa, tormenting the people. However, the five-headed dragon fell in love with a beautiful celestial maiden who descended from the heavens, repented for his misdeeds, and was united with her. Inspired by this story, the Bell of Dragon Love was installed. (fujisawa-kanko.jp)
On the fence beneath the bell, countless padlocks bearing the names of lovers are attached. This symbolizes locking their love and wishing for an eternal bond. The padlocks can be purchased at a nearby shop, where sign pens are also available for rent. (nnavi.com)
From this spot, there is a magnificent view of Sagami Bay, and on clear days, you can see as far as Izu Oshima. At sunset, the sea and sky are dyed crimson, creating a romantic atmosphere. The site is also known as a filming location for the movie "Girl in the Sunny Place," where the protagonist’s proposal scene was shot. (enoshima-kankou.jimdofree.com)
