As you walk through the quiet residential streets of Nishihokima in Adachi Ward, a shocking pink house suddenly appears before your eyes. Standing in stark contrast to the calm atmosphere of its surroundings, the building sits as if it were an entrance to another dimension. This is the "Asakura Gallery," a place where artist Shuhei Tsuji's world of creativity unfolds.
Opening the front door reveals a space awash in pink. The walls, floor, ceiling, and even the toilet and bathroom are all dyed pink, with countless artworks densely arranged throughout. Plush toys and candy packages hang from the ceiling, while paintings and objects overflow onto the floor, creating the illusion of having wandered into a dream.
Shuhei Tsuji has been passionate about drawing since childhood and has continued his creative activities self-taught. His works, influenced by anime and pop culture, feature girls with large eyes and unique characters such as the blood-spitting baby "Hematemesis Baby," all possessing a distinctive worldview. These pieces are born from his pure pursuit of "kawaii" (cuteness).
Once a hangout for local elementary school students, the gallery now attracts a wider age range, with young people interested in pop art and kawaii culture coming to visit. Through his works, Tsuji continues to provide visitors with surprise and delight.
